General information
THE DERBY TRIATHLON is now in its 17th year and has seen over 10,000 competitors over the years take part. The event is aimed at all levels of fitness and ability, whether it's your first triathlon or you are the next Olympic hopeful. You can enter as an individual and complete all three disciplines on your own, the relay event with friends or colleagues and enjoy the race as a team or the corporate event where each team member (of three) completes the full triathlon.
Triathlon is a multi-discipline event where people compete against the clock and each other. Swimming, cycling and running with no break except for the transition (this is a quick pit stop to change for the next discipline).
Infomation for beginners
The Derby Triathlon is the most ideal event for first time competitors. Last year over 50% of the field had never completed a triathlon. For the swim any stroke is permitted including breaststroke and even back stroke and the swim times vary from 6 minutes (for the faster athletes) up to 30 minutes (for the people just out to have an enjoyable day). All you need is a swimming costume or trunks, goggles (not compulsory), a bike (road or mountain bike as long as it is in roadworthy condition), a cycle helmet (this is compulsory) and a pair of trainers.
